Our Sheep
Dover Farm is home to a flock of over 85 Gotland and Wensleydale and Valais Blacknose sheep. Known for their friendly and curious natures, as well as their fabulous wool, Gotlands are a growing presence in the North American fibre sheep community. The Wensleydales, a newer addition to the Dover Farm flock, have the amazing wool with unbelievable luster. Dover Farm is a proud to contributor to the development of Gotland and Wensleydale sheep in North America and is committed to excellence in breeding stock and bloodlines. We have imported purebred Valais Blacknose embryos. The first purebred Valais Blacknose lambs were born in March of 2021.
The Shepherd and the Hand Spinner both believe that to create a high quality fleece, a sheep must be both happy and healthy. Dover Farm sheep live a free range life on 33 acres of managed pastures. Pastures are maintained through careful rotational grazing, regular mowing and the application of manure as fertilizer.
The flock is protected from natural predators by Bess and 4 other guardian dogs, who live with the sheep year round.
